Today most schools, colleges, universities AND textbooks teach Spanish in a way that is uninspiring for students. Long lists of nouns, grammar and academics to be studied before you ever get to really speaking conversationally.
Example: While taking a year of Spanish in a traditional school and eventually learning to speak sentences, you will only know how to say them in the present tense. If you don't keep up with your studies or you drop out, you go through life speaking only in the present tense!
As a result, many students never attempt a foreign language and then miss out on the joys of being bi-lingual. Business owners and professionals miss out on additional opportunities that inevitably arise from learning Spanish. My objective in teaching is to train students to speak their way to language. This is done through meaningful practice of everyday sentences, questions and social phrases, instead of random lists of inert grammatical forms and rules. I believe in communicating first, lecturing and fine tuning next, and manipulating the grammar more easily last. For example, did many of us learn grammar as infants? NO! Starting with grammar is approaching language backwards and makes learning more difficult and unappealing.
Because of my experience and knowledge, the greatest benefit my students always rave about is just how fast and easy they learn. I give a personal commitment to each student that if they attend classes at least two days a week and complete all assigned homework, they will be speaking, reading and writing conversational Spanish within only 8 months. Born and raised in America, I was raised speaking both Spanish and English from the crib. To be bi-lingual, I believe, is the greatest gift my mother gave to me. I would like to share that gift with you!
I have been teaching since 1975 in both private and public schools before beginning my own independent practice. As a result I have taught hundreds of children and adults from ages 7 to 90 and in every segment of business to speak Spanish the easy way.
